چکیده

Design, setting, participants, & measurements Fluid status was optimized prospectively in 55 chronic hemodialysis patients over 3 months (November 2011 to February 2012). Predialysis fluid overload was measured weekly using the Fresenius Body CompositionMonitor. Time-averaged fluid overload was calculated as the average between preand postdialysis fluid overload. The study aimed to bring the time-averaged fluid overload of all patients into a target range of 0.560.75 L within the first month and maintain optimal fluid status until study end. Postweight was adjusted weekly according to a predefined protocol.

Control of fluid balance guided by body composition monitoring in patients on peritoneal dialysis (COMPASS): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND The clinical benefits of bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS)-guided fluid management in patients on hemodialysis have been widely demonstrated. However, no previous reports have evaluated the effect of regular and serial BIS-guided fluid management on the residual renal function (RRF) in patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). Therefore, we will evaluate the clinical efficacy of BIS-guided...

Measurement of Fluid Status Using Bioimpedance Methods in Korean Pediatric Patients on Hemodialysis

Adequate fluid management is an important therapeutic goal of dialysis. Recently, bioelectrical impedance methods have been used to determine body fluid status, but pediatric reports are rare. To determine the accuracy of bioelectrical impedance methods in the assessment of body fluid statusof children undergoing hemodialysis (HD), 12 children on HD were studied. A multi-frequency bioimpedance ...

Rationale and design of BISTRO: a randomized controlled trial to determine whether bioimpedance spectroscopy-guided fluid management maintains residual kidney function in incident haemodialysis patients

BACKGROUND Preserved residual kidney function (RKF) and normal fluid status are associated with better patient outcomes in incident haemodialysis patients. The objective of this trial is to determine whether using bioimpedance technology in prescribing the optimal post-dialysis weight can reduce the rate of decline of RKF and potentially improve patient outcomes. METHODS/DESIGN 516 pateints c...

Time to improve fluid management in hemodialysis: should we abandon clinical assessment and routinely use bioimpedance?

Underestimation of the dry weight of hemodialysis patients can result in unwelcome symptoms and intradialytic hypotension, which may be associated with adverse outcomes (1,2). Similarly, overestimation of dryweight can lead to chronic volume overload, which increases cardiovascular morbidity and mortality (3). In reality, there are problems in detecting both hypovolemia and hypervolemia (4). Not...

Assessment of Fluid Shifts of Body Compartments using Both Bioimpedance Analysis and Blood Volume Monitoring

Fluid shifts are commonplace in chronic hemodialysis patients during the intra- and interdialytic periods. In this study, we evaluated fluid shifts of body compartments using both bioimpedance spectroscopy and blood volume monitoring from the start to the end of hemodialysis. 24 stable hemodialysis patients were included on the study. Relative change of blood volume was progressively reduced fr...
